Downloading SPIP

SPIP 3.2.7
(12 December 2019)

After downloading this zipped file to your computer, you need to extract all the files and upload them — using FTP — to your site.

Automatic installation.

Retrieve a copy of the spip_loader.php file (link below) and copy it back into the directory where you would like to install SPIP (e.g. at the root of your Web site). The spip_loader script will install the latest stable version of the SPIP 3.1 branch.

Then open this file in your browser and wait until the full upload of SPIP itself has completed.

NB: By default, the spip_loader.php script can only be run by the SPIP author idenitified as user n° 1. You can customise this rule by modifying the line of code in the script that reads: define('_SPIP_LOADER_UPDATE_AUTEURS', '1');.

Warning: This script will perform an installation and update to the latest stable version of SPIP (3.1).

If you want to use spip_loader to update your SPIP to the latest stable version of branch 2.1 or branch 3.0, you must edit the file «spip_loader.php», and change the line:  define('_CHEMIN_FICHIER_ZIP', 'spip/stable/'); replacing:  'spip/stable/' by:  'spip/stable/' . or  'spip/stable/' .

If this automatic process does not work, perform a manual installation using the zip archive provided above.

Upgrading to version 2.x, prior to upgrading to 3.1

If you are downloading this latest version to upgrade an existing site that is running a pre-2.0 version, make sure to read this document as the upgrade steps that you make must take account of the major refactoring of the code in the 2.0 release.

The development versions

SPIP is developed using SVN. There are several branches that correspond to the currently maintained versions of SPIP:

  • Branches which are "stable" for versions 2.1, 3.0, 3.1, which are only further updated to correct bugs and occasionally to include minor improvements.
  • A development branch which may at any time be updated to correct a recently discovered bug, and which risks being completely unusable if significant new functions have been added or are being modified.

Here are the various download links for the versions stored in SVN:
