SPIP recognises a certain number of file formats in its DOCUMENTS loop.
SPIP’s response when it does not recognise a file extension is to ZIP the file up for security reasons. For example, this can eliminate a PHP script file being executed after it has been added to the attached documents (of an article or a section).
If you would like to add an additional file format, for example, perhaps a PowerPoint (pps) file type, you will need to add that format to the spip_types_documents table in your database using a direct method like phpMyAdmin [1].
